When your home is looking old and outdated, you need to take the initiative and buy new fixtures for your bathroom, kitchen, or bedroom. But when you do so, you realize that they are expensive and out of your budget.

The best way to go about this problem is to start looking around for cheap fixtures which can be found in many stores. However, the quality may not be the same as what you currently have. The worst is it may cost you more due to damage.

The next best thing is to repaint. Refurbishing fixtures by repainting them is a quick, low-cost way of updating your living space. Aside from shelves and TV wall panels, there are other fixtures you would not imagine that can be repainted.

Here are Five Household Fixtures that can be Repainted.

  1. Bathtub – It is better if you will look for a professional to refurbish your bathtub. But if you do not have the budget, doing it yourself is a good option. Start by removing the faucet and the drain cover. Remove the caulks and thoroughly clean the surface with an all-purpose cleaner. Apply epoxy fillers on scratched or chipped surfaces. Then, sand it to make it smooth. Spray paint the bathtub with an air compressor then let it dry. Finally, attach the faucet and the drain cover.
  2. Countertop – This is one of the most used fixtures in a house. Not only for food preparation but this is also where your family and friends bond. Countertop resurfacing is best done by a professional. If, however, you feel like you want to do it on your own, it is definitely doable. Before starting your DIY countertop refinishing, make sure that it is cleared and clean from oils and dirt. Next is to sand the surfaces of the kitchen countertop. Apply the base coating thoroughly. Once dry, apply another stone coating. Sand the countertop and make sure that there is no rough surface. After 24 hours, apply a clear protective coat. Lastly, apply a second coating after 4 hours. Wait for about 24 hours before using it.
  3. Metal Railings – Rust is the enemy of metal railings. Repainting it is the cheapest way to extend its life. As always, start your project by cleaning it. Use a steel brush to clean it from rusts and flaking layers of paint. Wash it off with a sugar-soap solution dissolved in hot water using a clean cloth. Then, apply the first coat of paint which will serve as the primer. Once dry, apply the second coat. It is best if you will use spray paint to make sure that the metal railing is evenly coated.
  4. Vent Covers – Aside from regularly cleaning the vent covers, you can also repaint them to give them a new look. The first thing you should do is to remove the air vent. Clean it with soap and water. Once dry, apply the appropriate paint depending on the material the air vent is made of. This should give it a brand-new look.
  5. Curtain Rods – Sometimes, curtain rods just do not compliment the color of your curtain. If you do not have the time to buy a new one, an easy fix is to repaint it.

Before you start, make sure that the rods are clean. Use spray paint and apply it evenly. Let it dry before using.

These are just some of the fixtures that you can repaint and there are a lot more. Repainting is a cost-conscious decision to refurbish your existing fixtures as it saves you money compared to a new purchase.
